I am an unabashed Columbus junkie. I realized this when my job at the Columbus Museum of Art required me to hang out with speakers I brought to town for the public programs I organized. While they were in town, I showed “my Columbus” to folks including iconic artists William Wegman and George Segal, and Pulitzer-Prize-winning writer Hedrick Smith. Individual results varied, but most of my visitors fell in love with Columbus during their short stays. Those experiences are now just a part of my storied past, but I still love to introduce Columbus to visitors and residents alike. It’s not hard. Columbus is pretty fantastic. I like to enjoy what Columbus has to offer, and hope I am contributing to what’s great about this city.
My experience has fed my my passionate belief that community service is not only vital for the target community being served, but also for the individuals who engage in it. You can read about one such experience in my blog post Students use Industrial Design TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
I am communications specialist with over a decade of professional communications and project management experience. My background is pretty varied: I have a Master’s degree in ancient Greek and Latin, I have designed costumes for theater and dance, and have organized public programs ranging from symposia to a popular outdoor jazz concert series. In my work as Director of Marketing & Communications at Columbus College of Art & Design I worked on a broad range of projects: with the super-talented folks at MediaSourceTV to create an Emmy Award-winning recruitment video for the college, as well as a TV special about CCAD’s world-class fashion show that took place right here in Columbus on May 8, 2010; with DaNite Sign Company to manufacture and install a 40-foot sign spelling out the word “DESIGN” in 5-foot aluminum letters erected on the corner of the building at Broad St. and Cleveland Ave.; and with various designers and print vendors on a major large-scale environmental graphics program on the college campus. I also was the editor of the college’s biannual magazine, IMAGE. You can find links to my work in the “more work” section of my blog. Now I am back at the Columbus Museum of Art working with the smart and talented (not to mention FUN!) volunteers who work to raise money and support for the Museum. There is no end to the fun!
I am a total nut for great design. I love to bring people together to do great things. I shamelessly promote the things I believe in, which could be anything from my kid’s BEASTIE baseball team, to a fabulous new magazine, to the remarkable folks I come in contact with every day in my very own neighborhood.
